T'ai Chi Ch'uan

This beautiful, graceful form of exercise has been proven to increase mental clarity, enhance concentration, reduce stress, strengthen the immune system, improve self control, increase circulation, enhance flexibility and longevity and increase energy




In motion all parts of body must be light nimble and strung together, flowing like a great river.




In stillness, be calm and anchored as a mountain.




Keep the spine straight as if the head was hanging from a string.




The breath (ch'i) should be excited, the spirit (shen) should be internally gathered.




Breathing is relaxed and the energy penetrates the bones.




Let the postures be without breaks or holes.




The motion should be rooted in the feet, released through the legs, controlled by the waist, and manifested through the fingers.




The feet, legs and waist must act together simultaneously, so that while stepping forward or back the timing and position are correct. When one part of the body moves, the whole body moves.




If the timing and position are not correct, the body becomes disordered, and the defect must be sought in the legs and waist.




In the beginning when you practice, you will make big open movements. Later on you can be more precise, minimizing the movements.




Flow with the breath, feel the root express in motion. Relax into it...




Remember:




Tai Chi is an exercise in relaxation
