Hands on HP Switches

1. Connections to a HP Switch :- I have used a console cable and connected it directly to my computer via serial port… we can use a lan cable if the switch has an ip to log in …so let’s go

When we have a new switch in hand with no config’s done on it then it will have its manufacturers name on it … the switch is already in enable mode
So lets go for config mode and do the rest
2. Hostname : hostname test_lab_1
3. Username password : password user-name manager password 12345-- not the password which I have given over there but …
Now we have set username passwords for going to enable mode….
4. IP for switch: ip can be given on a vlan 1 or any other vlan also …lets try for vlan 1 first: I already did that ..so lets try on another vlan
5. Spanning tree : so I have disabled the existing spanning tree… lets see how to enable it back on
We can just use spanning-tree command as such or give priority to it so as to make the switch a root switch…. We can see after giving the priority as 0 my switch became the root…
I actually connect another switch to my switch which Is also hp 2530 and its showing that port no 6 is on forwarding state…
The other switch has an ip on it I guess so lets login to it and try do the same stuff on it as well..
The command is sh cdp neighbor details
Now am on the other switch and its to be noted that the hostname and all are not yet set on it…

Spanning tree is not enabled in switch 2 lets enable it and connect another Ethernet cable and check what the output… now lets connect another lan cable from sw 1 10th port to sw 2 10th port and check it again…

SO basically when there are multiple connections from and to the same switch it will loop….
Spanning tree will help resolving it by blocking such ports
We can see the out put again in spanning tree command
The tenth port in sw 2 is on blocking state as it creates loops if not blocked …our stp took care of it..
Lets see for sw 1 by exiting and saving the config’s of sw 2
We see that on sw 1 all ports are in forwarding state…. Its because its our root switch and all ports are in fwding state …

6. Vlan on Switch: we can vlan on switch by using
Vlan followed by vlan id
So our vlans are created and how to check on them …..

Sh vlan vlan-id is the command to check on a particular vlan

Associating a particular port on vlan :
We use untagged followed by port number
In this case
Untagged 12
Trunking between vlan ‘s for both the switches
trunk 22 trk1 trunk
vlan 25
tagged trk1
