The Real Name of Pele` is
Edson Arantes do NascimentoHe was named after the famous American inventor Thomas Alva Edison.The nickname Pele` was given by one of his friends.

And Pele is said to have punched the boy since he did not like that name.Pele` scored an astounding 1283 first class goals. This includes the 77 international goals he scored for Brazil.

In Brazil he is known as “Pe`rola Negra” which literally means “Black Pearl”.
In 1961, the Brazilian government declared Pele` as an official National Treasure.

In Brazil, Coca-Cola has funded for a mobile Pele`-Museum on Wheels, that travels throughout the country.
Pele` is the only soccer player who holds the record of being a part of 3-World Cup winning teams.
As a child, Pele` could not afford to buy a football. So he stuffed paper into his socks to make his own version of football.

In 1999, International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted him as the athlete of the century.
Pele` was given honorary British Knighthood in the year 1997.
He was so popular that in 1967, a 48 hour ceasefire was declared in Nigeria so that the troops engaged in the civil war could watch Pele` play.
Pele` became the youngest ever winner of a World Cup.

He was just 17 when he achieved this remarkable feat.
Pele` was the one who scored the 100th World Cup Goal for Brazil National team.

And it was a splendid header.
