This was one nice mall and it is really sad to see that it is closing. This mall was such a 1970s time warp, since it was never renovated, and was an interesting one to see. Let's check this mall out before it closes for good. (Closed 6/16/21)

History: The Upper Valley Mall opened in 1971 with Sears, JCPenney, Rikees, and Woolworth's as anchors, with 268,00 square feet of retail space and 55 stores. Elder Beerman replaced the Woolworth's after they closed their Upper Valley Mall location in 1992. Rike's would get converted to Lazarus in 1986. Lazarus was converted to Macy's in 2003. This would not always end well though as Elder Beerman and Old Navy closed their Upper Valley Mall locations in 2013. Good News came when the Dayton Society of Natural History opened a smaller version of their main museum in the old Elder Beerman Space at Upper Valley Mall in April 2016, however Macy's and JCPenney both closed their Upper Valley Mall locations in 2015, and this would leave just Sears as the only anchor store. The Upper Valley Mall Cinema closed in 2017, and the mall was in steep decline now. In 2017, the Upper Valley Mall was purchased by the Clark County Land Reutilization Corp. for $200,000, and they would take mall ownership. This would all lead up to December 2018, when Sears announced they would be closing their Upper Valley Mall location, leaving the mall with no anchor stores, and the Sears closed on March 10th 2019. The mall was in a heavy decline at this point, and on April 15th 2021, the Clark County Land Reutilization Corp. announced that The Upper Valley Mall would permanently close on June 16th 2021.
