Kuwait Building Fire Leaves 41 Dead, Dozens Injured

A fire that ripped through a six-story building housing migrant workers in Kuwait City on Wednesday morning has tragically claimed the lives of 41 individuals, with dozens more injured.

Local authorities report the blaze originated in a kitchen within the building located in the Mangaf area. Firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene after the incident was reported at 6:00 AM local time (3:00 AM GMT).

"The building housed a significant number of workers," stated a senior police commander to state television. "While dozens were successfully rescued, the fire's smoke inhalation tragically resulted in a high number of fatalities."

Kuwait's Interior Minister, Sheikh Fahd Al Yousef, characterized the event as a "true disaster." Major General Eid Rashid of the Ministry of Interior confirmed the rapid dispatch of both firefighting and forensic teams.

Initial reports indicated a death toll of 35, according to Major General Eid Al Oweihan, Director General of Criminal Evidence. He elaborated that six additional victims succumbed to their injuries while receiving hospital treatment.

The Ministry of Health remains on high alert, having treated 43 individuals injured in the fire. Several of these cases are considered serious and have been transferred to various hospitals for further care.
