Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia, one of the oldest cities in the world. Today, the Tbilisi Metro has 23 stations, which are located on two lines: ,,Akhmeteli Theater” - ,,Varketili” and the Saburtalo line. 21 stations are underground, and two are on the surface.
The Technical University metro station is located on the Saburtalo line and was opened on September 15, 1979. Until 2011, the station was called "Politeknikuri", corresponding to the previous name of the Higher Education Institution.
The station has two entrances: one goes to Pekin Street, and the other to Kostava Street. Near the station there is the Georgian Technical University - a state non-profit educational institution, the old Sports Palace, the Statistics Department of Georgia, the Holiday Inn Tbilisi hotel. The architecture of the single-vaulted station is characterized by geometric patterns (diamonds) on the ceiling, with two mosaic panels decorated at both ends of the station, depicting various scenes and elements of Georgian youth.
The Tbilisi Metro was put into operation on January 11, 1966, and was the fourth in the former USSR after Moscow, Leningrad and Kyiv.
