Paan is not only a leaf it's a blessing of good symbol of prosperity and a magical ingredient of Ayurveda. Scientific name Piper betel it's belonging to the dicot family Piperace. Pann mostly consumed in South and southeast Asia. Paan is a dioecious climber evergreen perennial plant with glossy heart shaped leaves. Paan is known as the Neglected green gold of India and its also known as Symbol of love . Various types of paan are popular across the India like ,_ Maghai Paan , Meetha Paan, Banarasi Paan, Gold paan etc
Paan has been use around for a long period of time in every religions.there are various myths and beliefs attached to this paan paan has been mentioned in ancient Indian scriptures like Charaka Samhita , Ayurvedic books,Shushrut and many more . According to Ramayana and Mahabharata paan leaf played a significant role.
The historical evidences and the book Ain-e-Akbari writen by Abul-Fazl that reference the uses of Paan leaf in Mughal eras. Men and women specially the queen of Mughal period chewed paan leaves with lime and catechu or( khaire) as a part of their beauty routine.This gave a striking red stains to their lips .
In South India its tradition to offers two paan leaf with betel nut and a coin to the guest on every auspicious occasion as a Dakhshina.And in some states of India paans are given to the guest for chewing after the meals to give them more respects and kinship.

Paan leafs has antibacterial and antiprotozoan and antifungal properties.
But now a days paan are basically used as a chewing material.But when it's used with tobacco and many other chemicals it's has harmful effects on our health's causes DNA damage and causes oral cancer.
So avoid the uses of tobacco and chemicals along with Paan leafs.
