RBI MPC LIVE Updates: India's Central Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das Keeps Repo Rate Unchanged at 6.5%

India's Reserve Bank has reduced the inflation rate to 3.6% in July and 3.7% in August, after being at 5.1% in June. However, inflation is expected to rise in September due to higher food prices. The MPC expects food inflation to ease by Q4 FY25, helped by good crop arrivals and a strong rabi season.

The RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das shared the key takeaways from the recent Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. The GDP growth rate of the country for 2024-25 is at 7.2%. He projected real GDP for 2024-25 Q2 at 7%, Q3 at 7.4%, and Q4 at 7.4% in the 51st meeting of the MPC. He further said that the Real GDP growth of Q1 of next year has been estimated at 7.3 per cent and the risks are evenly balanced.

RBI has pegged the the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent. This decision was taken with 5:1 majority. "After evaluating the macroeconomic conditions and future outlook, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided, with 5 out of 6 members in agreement, to maintain the policy rate at 6.5 per cent," the RBI Governor said.
