Return to Match Fishing - Barnburgh Lakes April 2021

So finally we're back match fishing for the first time in 2021. This week sees me at Barnburgh Lakes near Doncaster on Lake 1 or the Top Lake as it is known.

Having been for a practice session the week before and a session at Langwith Lakes to work on my spring match fishing tactics I had a reasonable idea of what to expect fishing for F1's.

Yet again the overnight temps took a tumble and a hard frost hit the ground so the plan was to start negatively feeding micros and pole fishing soft expander at around 10.5m and also fish a short 2+2 maggot line and feed a 2+2caster line short to try and catch up in the water later in the day as this had worked well in practice.

As well as the short lines you can't ignore the margins at Barnburgh Lakes and tactics down the edge would be feeding micros and 4mm hard pellet, fishing one of these , a 4mm expander or caster over the top.

Finally, my get out of jail card would be a small pellet feeder across to the island - usually a consistent spring commercial tactic.
