The AMAZING 2024 Jeep Recon! Practical & Futuristic EV!
Every week, it seems like more and more automakers are scrambling to release hybrid or fully electric SUVs for an ever-increasing market. However, there is one EV in particular that has completely disrupted the entire industry, the 2024 Jeep Recon. But why exactly? Let’s find out..
What’s new for the Recon in 2024?
In the U.S., the Recon will be among the first models to showcase Jeep’s EV shift. While the Wrangler 4xe introduced a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the 2024 Jeep Recon takes it a step further by being fully electric.
Electric vehicles have transformed various vehicle categories, entering segments like full-size pickup trucks, luxury SUVs, and even station wagons.
Now, the 2024 Jeep Recon EV is preparing to make its presence felt in the domain of rock crawling.
Drawing inspiration from the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid, this four-wheel-drive mid-size SUV embraces full electric power. It boasts unique features such as an optional power-folding rooftop and doors that are easily removable.
The Ford Bronco is the sole other contender with comparable capabilities.
Adding to the evolving Jeep lineup, the Recon EV will stand alongside the forthcoming Wagoneer EV as one of two new electric models.
Positioned within the mid-size SUV category, the Jeep Recon EV is anticipated to be comparable in size to the existing Jeep Wrangler or the two-row Grand Cherokee.
Jeep has announced that production plans are scheduled for sometime in late-2024.
Can the 2024 Recon go off-road?
Now, this is the question on everybody’s lips, isn’t it?!
While firsthand testing will be necessary to assess the 2024 Jeep Recon's off-roading capabilities, the automaker admits that skepticism exists among consumers regarding the potential of an EV SUV to excel off the well-trodden paths.
Jeep is committed to stamping the 2024 Recon with "true trail-rated capability," although it remains unclear whether this will apply to specific trims or the entire Recon lineup.
Regardless, the 2024 Recon is set to feature the Selec-Terrain traction management system. This technology, found in other Jeep models, readies the SUV for diverse driving surfaces, spanning gravel, snow, mud, and even pavement.
The package includes underbody protection, e-locker axle technology, tow hooks, and of course, off-road tires that unmistakably communicate your serious intent whether on the trail or at the local supermarket.
The Recon is not a replacement for the Wrangler
Jeep's vision for the Recon is rooted in the inspiration drawn from the Wrangler. Yet, despite sharing a boxy form, the Recon stands distinct from the Wrangler and does not attempt to replace it.
Jeep's experimentation with imaginative concepts based on the current Wrangler has been evident for some time. However, these concepts, while captivating, appear far from production-ready. It's unlikely that Jeep will offer a two-door, 600-hp EV with a manual transmission.
Including the Recon in the lineup offers Jeep the flexibility to rethink its iconic model for a new era, without the constraints of it being a direct successor to the Wrangler. This freedom has allowed Jeep to explore sensible alternatives, such as incorporating independent front and rear suspensions.
Similar to the Wrangler, the 2024 Jeep Recon will feature removable doors, providing an enhanced open-air driving experience.
It also borrows one of the Wrangler's popular attributes—a one-touch power top. However, this feature can be quite expensive on the 2023 Wrangler, costing over $4,000, so its availability on the Recon is yet to be confirmed.
With a focus on comfort, the production plan entails two rows of seats with seating for five, catering to long off-road journeys. However, specific details about interior technology remain limited.
Early images showcase the practical addition of a spare tire mounted on the tailgate, a reassuring feature for enthusiasts.
If the blend of off-roading spirit and electrification resonates with you, the Recon is a vehicle you’d want to look at. In terms of aesthetics, this EV model successfully captures elements from its heritage while introducing modern touches where necessary.
The frontal design keeps to tradition, featuring the iconic seven-slot grille associated with the Wrangler. Squared headlights accentuate this classic look. Dark accents span from the rockers to the roof panels and pillar trims, contributing to a cohesive body-on-frame build.
The presence of substantial tires on large wheels draws attention to premium attributes like tow hooks, skid plates, and the utilization of BFGoodrich T/A rubber.
