Woodall Mountain, the highest point in Mississippi has an elevation of 806 feet. While low compared to other states, this highpoint has a rich history. Located in Tishomingo County near the city of Iuka, the mountain was part of the Battle of Iuka in 1862 during the US Civil War, a small but bloody engagement most noteworthy for a weird natural phenomenon. Prior to this Woodall Mountain may have served as a landmark for escaped slaves on the Underground Railroad. It is one of the most noticeable landmarks in this part of Mississippi.
