The R3D electronics Super Fuzz is our take on the Univox Super Fuzz by Shin-ei. Hailed by many as the Holy Grail of fuzz pedals and made famous by Pete Townsend of The Who (Live at Leeds). There are two unique features that set it apart from other distortion and fuzz boxes. The first is that the full-wave rectification of the circuit produces an upper octave as well as a slight lower octave, giving the sound tons of compression with a mild ring modulator effect. The second is a tone control that engages a 1kHz filter that scoops the mids, providing a fat, bassy tone, unique to this circuit. The R3D electronics Super Fuzz also features NOS germanium diodes to produce the square wave clipping. The controls are Balance (Volume), Expander (Fuzz Level), and Tone. The original Super Fuzz incorporated a tone switch that we’ve upgraded to a potentiometer. You get the sounds of the original tone switch, plus all the sounds in between. All built by hand with the highest quality components, true bypass switching, and extremely high attention to detail. The R3D electronics Super Fuzz is a modern recreation of a classic with additional control.
