Founding members of "Cactus" and ex-members from "Vanilla Fudge" drummer Carmine Appice(from Brooklyn NY), and bassist Tim Bogert(from Ridgefield NJ)decided to take a break from the "psychedelic Fudge" seen and put together a "Cream"/"Led Zeppelin" oriented but AMERICAN HEAVY ROCK'N ROLL BLUES band.Their dream was to play with Jeff Beck(after hearing Jeff's 2nd LP "Beck-Ola" released in June '69)and in '69 Carmine's friend from "Zeppelin" John Bonham said Jeff was interested in the collaboration and loved "Vanilla Fudge's" rhythm section between Carmine on drums and Tim on bass.Jeff even filled in for "Vanilla Fudge" for a Cocoa-Cola commercial in '69 for a song/session where "Vanilla Fudge" guitar player Vince Martell fell ill.The 3 meet as early as 1967 and even jammed a session in July '69.In September '69 "Melody Maker" announced Carmine and Tim were in Jeff's new band "The Jeff Beck Group".Jeff's manager(also "Led Zeppelin's" manager)Peter Grant was in the process of finalizing the contract for the new group unfortunately, on November 12, '69 Jeff was in a horrible car crash and suffered from a fractured skull and would not recover until March '71 when reformed the new "Jeff Beck Group".That group later broker up in July '72.In the mean time, Carmine remembers touring with "Vanilla Fudge" in '69 in either Phoenix Arizona or Tucson and seeing a drive in movie theater called "CACTUS" which inspired him for a band name after seeing the name up in lights.Carmine, Tim, & lead vocalist/harmonica/DRUMMER LOL Rusty Day(born Garden City Detroit Michigan)from Ted Nugent's "The Amboy Dukes" and guitarist/DRUMMER LOL Jim McCarty(born Detroit Michigan)from "Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels" where Tim meet him in '66@"Whisky a go-go" on Sunset Strip in California.Jim also played on Jimi Hendrix's "Band Of Gypsy" drummer Buddy Miles's LP's "Expressway To Your Skull" debut released in '68, "Electric Church" released '69, and "Them Changes" released in '70(All Co-produced/written by Jimi Hendrix).According to Carmine "Vanilla Fudge" played their last gig@the "Action House" owned by their manager Phil Basile in March '70.Tim remembers playing with both "Fudge" and "Cactus" at the same time, and by October-December '69 "Cactus" was born and were in the studio to record their debut album which was rehearsed/recorded@"Break-Out Studio and Ultra-Sonic Recording Studios completed sometime by February '70 and released on July 1, '70."Cactus" released 4 LP's between '70-'72 before Jeff Beck was back in the picture.Jeff Beck would start his MKIII "Jeff Beck Group" with guitarist Jeff Beck, keyboardist Max Middleton, bassist Tim Bogert, drummer Carmine Appice, and vocalist Kim Milford(later replaced with Bobby Tench).Rehearsals took place at the "Rolling Stones" rehearsal rooms in Bermondsey(London)for the preparation of a U.S. tour in '72.It would be around sometime in '72 where Jeff acquired his heavily modded Gibson '54 "Oxblood" Les Paul from a friend found in the back of a car.It was originally a Gibson '54 "Goldtop" Les Paul with P-90's.The U.S. tour started on August 1, '72@the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh and concluded@the Paramount Theatre in Seattle on August 19, '72.After the tour Tench, and Middleton left the group and the trio became "Beck, Bogert, Appice"(still billed as "The Jeff Beck Group")in the early days.The supergroup trio played their first gig@The Oval in London, on September 16, '72.October 20, '72, a U.S. tour began at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida and concluded on November 11, '72,@The Warehouse in New Orleans.Beck, Bogert, and Appice finally began work on their debut LP("Beck, Bogert, Appice")between December 11-22, '72@Chess Studios in Chicago, IL, and resumed@The Village studios in Los Angeles in January '73.The LP was released in the U.S. on March 26, '73, and on April 6, '73 in the U.K..The tour started prior to LP release on February 1, '73 in the U.K. in a variety of venues/clubs and ended on February 18, '73@The Rank.on February 20, '73 the group played on French TV show "Pop Deux".March 28, '73, the band started its U.S. tour@the Music Hall, in Boston where Jeff debuted the "Talk-Box" guitar effect(aka "The Bag").”Lose Myself With You” was a BBA original released on the “BBA” studio LP in “73.I was lost!!!LOL
