Difference between Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO Plans

Описание к видео Difference between Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO Plans

Melissa will explain some key differences between the cost and functionality of Medicare HMO and Medicare PPO plans. Teaser: Network and Referrals!

What is HMO?
Medicare HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization. Medicare HMO plans can provide rich (good) benefits, lower costs but can also limit where you seek care.

An HMO network generally has less flexibility than a PPO network. With a Medicare HMO you may be required to get a referral to see a specialist. If you have services rendered outside of the approved network, you could be 100% on your own with coverage.

What is PPO?
Medicare PPO stands for Preferred Provider Organization. Medicare PPO plans generally have a larger network, could have a higher monthly premium, and can have greater flexibility when seeking care from network providers. Don’t like referrals, consider a Medicare PPO plan.

Medicare PPO is not the same as a EPO (exclusive provider organization). EPOs are more geared for ACA health plans (plans for people under 65 and not on Medicare).

Medicare PPO plans can include additional such as prescriptions, dental, vision, hearing and much more!
