Former One Nation senator Fraser Anning has been slammed for a vile speech where he praised the White Australia policy and echoed Nazi rhetoric in calling for a "final solution" to immigration.

Anning -- who came to parliament on the One Nation ticket after replacing the disqualified Malcolm Roberts, then left the party and later joined Bob Katter's party -- made his official first speech to the parliament on Tuesday. In it, he slammed Muslim immigration, criticised 'cultural Marxism' and the Safe Schools policy, and affirmed his belief there were only two genders.

But the senator attracted instant backlash for using the phrase "final solution" in regards to immigration. The term, short form for the 'final solution to the Jewish question', was used in Nazi Germany and referred to the plan to exterminate the Jewish people.

"The final solution to the immigration problem, of course, is a popular vote," Anning said toward the end of his speech.

"Of course, we don’t need a plebiscite to cut immigration numbers, we just need a government that is willing to institute sustainable population policy and end Australian job stealing 457 visas and make student visas conditional on foreign students returning to the country they came from. What we do need a plebiscite for is to decide who comes here."

Anning and his former One Nation colleagues have been calling for a public vote on immigration for some time, an idea which itself has been criticised, but his speech, and especially his use of the 'final solution' phrase, was met with howls of outrage from inside and outside the parliament.
