35 years ago today “Foolish Beat” was released. It would start its 10-week journey to #1 and when it got there, I became the youngest artist in history to write, perform, and produce a #1 Billboard pop hit. I am still the youngest female to hold this record to date. The predominantly male record execs at Atlantic Records acquiesced to my very insistent “Momager” Diane who knew from the sound of the demo recording I made in my garage studio in Merrick, Long Island that I knew what I wanted sonically and arrangement-wise for this song and she fought for me to be the sole producer of this record. This was unheard of at the time for female singers/songwriters. Especially young ones.

There is no better feeling than to have the people speak with a resounding YES! And, music fans around the world embraced my pure musical vision and we are ALL still celebrating 3 1/2 decades later. In the United Kingdom, “Foolish Beat” reached #9 on the UK Singles Chart.

The song also reached the top 5 in Canada and Ireland and the top 10 in the Netherlands and Switzerland.

The single was released in Japan as the B-side to “Out of the Blue”
