RECEIVING AND EXTENDING GOD’S KINDNESS
2 SAMUEL 7-10 | SHINE P. THOMAS

Hebrew word for kindness: “ḥesed” – steadfast love, mercy, covenant loyalty.
I. GOD’S KINDNESS TO DAVID; 2 SAMUEL 7
David’s Good Desire & God’s Better Plan. God’s Promise – a House/Dynasty, a Forever King David’s Response; 2 Sam. 7:18–22; 24–29
Three observations:
● David Responds in Humility and Reverence
● David Remembers God’s Past Faithfulness
● David Accepts and Prays God’s Promises Back to Him
II. DAVID, THE MODEL KING; 2 SAMUEL 8
David is Victorious; 2 Sam. 8:6, 14 The Lord gave David victory wherever he went. David Becomes Famous; 2 Sam. 8:13 David Rules with Justice and Righteousness; 2 Sam. 8:15
III. DAVID’S KINDNESS; 2 SAMUEL 9–10
Kindness Received – Mephibosheth; 2 Sam. 9 Kindness Rejected – Hanun; 2 Sam. 10
IV. THE GOD OF COVENANT KINDNESS
Exodus 34:6; Psalm 136:1; Lam. 3:22 Kindness is God’s covenant character.
V. KINDNESS OF GOD FULFILLED IN CHRIST
Titus 3:4–5; Ephesians 2:4–5 God’s kindness appears in Jesus Christ – inviting us to the table of grace.
VI. LIVING OUT KINDNESS – WHEN IT HURTS
First, Receive God’s Kindness (Salvation); Eph. 2:8–9 Then, Reflect God’s Kindness; Eph. 4:32; Lk. 6:35
When Kindness is Rejected:
● Expect Rejection
● Guard Your Heart from Bitterness
● Leave Vindication to God; 1 Peter 2:23
● Keep Doing Good – with Wisdom; Gal. 6:9
● Bring Your Pain to God
Conclusion – Three Questions
1. Have you received God’s kindness, or are you resisting like Hanun?
2. Are you extending God’s kindness to others?
3. How will you respond when kindness is rejected?
