See how El Paso's Mission Trail is the oldest mission trail in North America. El Paso, Texas has two Spanish missions established in 1680, and a Spanish Presidio Chapel from the 1700s. The first Camino Real, or Royal Road, runs 42 miles through El Paso County, and El Paso's Mission Valley has a lot to see for the heritage tourist.
Start a tour of El Paso's Mission Trail at the Ysleta Mission, where the Tigua Indians have worshiped since 1682. This is the oldest Catholic Church in Texas. The Socorro Mission was established a day after the Ysleta Mission, and served the needs of the Piro Indians. The last Catholic Church on El Paso's Mission Trail is the San Elizario Presidio Chapel. it was built for the Spanish soldiers, and was part of a fort to guard against Apache raids.
