The garlic- neem-chili spray is a powerful pesticide consisting of plants with different pesticidal properties that control a variety of pests and some fungal diseases on plants.
You can make your own as long as you select plants with pesticidal properties such as:-
1. Neem (Azadirachta indica).
One of the most powerful and widely studied. Neem oil or leaf extracts (containing azadirachtin) act as repellents, growth regulators, and insecticides against aphids, whiteflies, caterpillars, beetles, and more. Very effective and relatively safe for beneficial insects when used properly.
2. Marigolds (Tagetes spp., especially African and French marigolds)
Strong scent repels nematodes, aphids, whiteflies, and some beetles. Often planted as companions around vegetables. Roots release compounds that suppress soil pests.
3.Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium or similar species)
Flowers contain pyrethrins, a classic natural insecticide. Highly effective against flies, mosquitoes, ants, roaches, and many garden pests. Basis for many commercial organic sprays.
4.Garlic (Allium sativum)
Sulfur compounds make it a strong repellent and contact insecticide for aphids, spider mites, caterpillars, and nematodes. Commonly used in homemade sprays (garlic + water + soap).
5.Basil (Ocimum basilicum)j
Repels flies, mosquitoes, thrips, whiteflies, and asparagus beetles. Plant near tomatoes, peppers, or asparagus for protection.
6.Mint (Mentha spp., including peppermint and spearmint)
Strong aroma repels ants, aphids, fleas, mosquitoes, and cabbage moths. (Note: Mint can be invasive, so contain it in pots.
7.Lavender (Lavandula spp.)
Repels moths, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, and some beetles. Its scent is pleasant to humans but irritanting to many pests.
8.Chrysanthemums (various species)
Contain pyrethrins (similar to pyrethrum). Effective against roaches, ticks, fleas, and garden insects.
9.Hot Peppers / Chili (Capsicum spp.)
Capsaicin irritates and repels insects like aphids, spider mites, and caterpillars. Used in sprays (often combined with garlic).
10.Citronella Grass (Cymbopogon nardus)
Well-known mosquito repellent; also deters other flying insects.
