Nathan Algren and Katsumoto were Actually Enemies in War | The History of the Two REAL Last Samurai

Описание к видео Nathan Algren and Katsumoto were Actually Enemies in War | The History of the Two REAL Last Samurai

One of the most famous and popular samurai movies of all time is surely “The Last Samurai.”
Those of you who have enjoyed watching this movie, know that Tom Cruise or an American soldier was not the real samurai, right?
It’s kind of like an all time classic joke saying that the last samurai is Tom Cruise. lol

...But then, who was the real last samurai, and did such a foreign soldier exist?

So today, as a katana trainee studying about Japanese history everyday, I will introduce the history of the French warrior, Jules Brunet, who fought alongside the samurai through the civil wars in the 19th century and the real last samurai, 西郷隆盛 Saigo Takamori, who helped Japan move towards modernization but lead a very tragic end.

You will find out that the model of Nathan Algren (played by Tom Cruise) and the model of Katsumoto (played by Ken Watanabe) were not allies but were actually enemies during the wars.

Also at the end of the video, I would like to introduce three more people whose names were used in the names of the characters that appear in the movie: Katsumoto, Nobutada, and Omura.
