Jiufen (九份) or Chiufen, is a picturesque seaside mountain village located in Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. Initially, it was a secluded village known for its "nine portions," a name derived from the nine families that originally settled there and requested goods in this quantity. The discovery of gold during the Japanese occupation in 1893 transformed Jiufen into a bustling mining town. Post-World War II, the gold mining activities declined, leading to the closure of the mines in 1971 and the town's subsequent decline.

Jiufen experienced a revival after being featured in the film "A City of Sadness". The film's success led to a tourism boom, transforming the once quiet mining town into a bustling tourist destination. Today, it is renowned for its narrow, winding streets lined with traditional teahouses, street food stalls, quaint shops, and scenic views of the surrounding mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The village's unique atmosphere and architecture have even drawn comparisons to the animated world of Miyazaki's "Spirited Away".
