ROBOTIC CARDIAC SURGERY: What is it and what are its benefits?

Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is the only center in Spain that has begun to perform robotic cardiovascular surgeries with the Da Vinci robot. Dr. Daniel Pereda, a surgeon who has carried out this intervention, explains what robot-assisted cardiac surgery is and what pathologies can be treated using this minimally invasive technique: mitral regurgitation (mitral valve repair), septal defects of the tricuspid valve, some types of cardiac tumors (especially benign) and arrhythmias, specifically atrial fibrillation (the most common).
