So the DC Extended Universe has had a pretty rough road. While the films certainly have their fans, the majority of audiences haven’t been impressed with what the DCEU has had to offer. [clip, boo you stink]

In fact, the DCEU has been such a critical and box office failure that the whole thing is about to undergo a massive reboot. And DC’s new guy in charge, James Gunn, has confirmed that that reboot will be taking place in the upcoming film The Flash. [clip]

So to get us ready for that reboot and more importantly The Flash film itself–we need to take a look back at all of the Flash’s key moments from the DCEU. As well as some other DC Multiverse characters we’ll be meeting along the way, such as Michael Keaton’s Batman. [clip, yeah, I’m Batman]

So the DCEU kicked off with 2013’s Man of Steel. A new Superman origin story starring Henry Cavill as the Son of Krypton himself, Superman. [clip]

Man of Steel is a controversial film. I personally hated it, I think the film spat in the face of what it means to be Superman. By prioritizing individualism over collectivism, and like I’ve said before, there’s nothing more anti-Superman than that.

Doug: But he saved Metropolis and the entire planet!

And he let his father die!

Doug: Okay that’s fair.

Anyway, Krypton is dying. A character by the name of General Zod, who we’ll be seeing again in The Flash. He and his lackeys warned the people of Krypton about the impending doom and destruction of their planet. But they took the tyrant approach to “saving the day” and attempted to overthrow the planet. They were then captured and banished from Krypton.

We then see a little baby Kal El sent to earth where he is raised by humans and known as Clark Kent. He finds out he has super abilities because of how his cells interact with earth's sun and wala, you’ve got Superman.

We then see Zod and his crew roll up on earth intent on conquering the planet, killing all the humans, and turning the earth into the new Krypton. A big battle takes place, buildings explode, and Superman saves the day. [clip, neck snap] becoming a symbol of hope to the world just like the S on his chest. [clip]

We see this same invasion taking place in The Flash when Flash travels back in time to 2013. Only this time Superman isn’t there to save the day. But there is a Supergirl. [clip]
In Man of Steel we actually got a reference to Kara Zor El, aka Supergirl. Director of Man of Steel, Zack Snyder, has confirmed that Kara was on this Kryptonian ship that arrived on earth before Superman. And that this busted open pod was Kara’s pod. [clip]

Next up we have the extremely rushed attempt to catch up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Batman v Superman. A movie that promised the smack down of the century between the two biggest superheroes ever created. But it didn’t exactly deliver. [clip, Martha]

This movie gave us our first introduction to Ezra Miller’s Flash. While looking at a flash-drive of information that Bruce Wayne stole from the Superman villain, Lex Luthor. We get a glimpse of all the DCEU heroes to come, accompanied by their very own photoshopped logos.

We see Barry Allen with long hair, like his younger self has in The Flash movie. In this security cam footage we see Barry in a convenience store stopping a robbery. And then later in the film we see him again in this really weird and random knightmare scene that Snyder fans can’t let go of.

Doug: Oh you’ve done it now.

I said what I said.

Anyway, using his ability to travel through time, Flash runs back in time to warn Bruce that he’s supposedly right about Superman being dangerous and that Lois Lane is the key to stopping him. [clip]
