Gingivectomy with electrocautery is a dental procedure used to remove excess gum tissue. It is commonly performed to treat periodontal disease or to improve the appearance of the gums. The procedure involves using an electric current to heat and remove the gum tissue which is painless under local anaesthesia.

Before the procedure, the dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area. The dentist will then use a scalpel or laser to make incisions in the gum tissue. The electrocautery tool is then used to remove the excess gum tissue and cauterize the area to prevent bleeding. The procedure is relatively quick and can be completed in a single visit.

The dentist will prescribe medications and provide instructions for caring for the gums during the healing process. Patients should avoid eating hard or crunchy foods and should brush and floss gently to avoid irritating the gums for the first 5 days post treatment. There is no rest period or dietary restrictions associated with this form of treatment.
