Hulu is being folded into Disney+. Disney says it will fully integrate Hulu inside the Disney+ app, with the standalone Hulu app set to phase out. A unified Disney+ and Hulu experience is planned for 2026, while customers can still buy Hulu or Disney+ as separate subscriptions. Disney says running both on one tech platform should improve recommendations and profiles, reduce churn, and create stronger ad sales. Internationally, Hulu will replace the Star tile on Disney+ starting in fall 2025, so the branding becomes consistent worldwide.
What about live TV? Hulu + Live TV is being combined with Fubo in a new joint venture that Disney will majority own. Both brands will still be sold separately for now, with a plan to fold Hulu + Live TV into Disney+ in 2026 so one app can handle on demand, live channels, and sports. Disney also plans to stop reporting individual streaming subscriber numbers, shifting investor focus to revenue, ads, and engagement instead of raw sub counts.
Sports fans get a separate path. A standalone ESPN streaming service launches August 21 for $29.99 per month, aimed at cord cutters who want full ESPN without a cable bundle. Bottom line: the Hulu app is going away, your Disney+ app becomes the home for Hulu shows and movies, and live TV plus sports will slot in as the new bundle pieces by 2026.
