Triple H returned to the WWF on January 7th 2002. The comeback, taking place after a quadriceps injury, put Triple H straight into the main event picture once again and it also turned Hunter from a heel to a babyface.

When Hunter stepped out into Madison Square Garden for the big return on WWF Raw, nobody could've expected the incredible crowd reaction he got. Triple H announced he was entering the 2002 Royal Rumble, and after winning that match, Triple H vs Chris Jericho for the Undisputed Championship was made official. The match, taking place after the iconic Hulk Hogan vs Rock Wrestlemania bout, was seen by many as a dissapointment.
