Lullusfest Bad Hesfeld 2023 / a cinematic film, hyperlapse.

-The Lullus Festival is the oldest folk festival in Germany. It commemorates the founder of Bad Hersfeld and Boniface's student, Archbishop Lull (710 to 786). It was celebrated for the first time in 852. Since then, the popular local festival has taken place in the week that marks the anniversary of the death of “Saint Lullus” (October 16th).

The ceremonial lighting of a pile of wood, the lullus fire, in the market square goes back to a medieval custom. The “Fierche” was a symbol of “Lullus Freedom”, the exemption from municipal taxes for the duration of the festival. A special feature is the beginning of the festival: it is the only folk festival to begin on Mondays. For the “Herschfellers” a “new” year begins with the Lollsfest, the “Lollsjahr”. This is an expression of the population's close connection to their home festival.
