Beautiful Galway's Christmas Continental Market. What a lovely place to spend Christmas!

In this video we are in Galway’s Eyre Square for a quick walk through Galway’s Christmas Continental Market.

I hope that this will be of interest as my previous Galway videos have received a lot of attention. So I hope this special Christmas film warms your hearts with a little Christmas spirit.

A lot of work goes into these videos. You can now buy me a pint as a means of appreciation for my work on Naked Ireland, no obligation, obviously - only if you can afford it... I appreciate it. Cheers.

The market also includes a separate area with a big wheel, a traditional carousel and a German Bier Keller, we’ll get a quick look at that at the end.

Bare in mind, too, that while we’re wandering through he stalls there’s also lots of entertainment programmed here in the evenings too, so you may be lucky and run into some interesting acts if you time your visit right.

In terms of food you can expect all the usuals again here this year, so the ubiquitous Bratwurst, of course, a must at all Crimbo markets, as well as Pretzels, confectionary, crepes, waffles, Mulled wine (of course) and much, much more.

There are many artisan food products on offer as you pass the stalls from both local and continental traders, but this may also be a good place to buy your Christmas gifts.

There’s also a 'light garden' here which is very pretty after dark, obviously we’re just a little bit early here to experience the proper effect of that.

Last year the market received over 350k visitors and this year is Galway’s 13th year of hosting the Continental market. People love it.

We all know what a beautiful place Galway is, particularly in summer, but I thought this would be a good way to sample something from a different season. The truth is, Galway is beautiful no matter what time you visit it. Anyone who’s ever been here will know that it’s people, the Galwegians are the nicest people you will ever meet, anywhere in the world. That’s a fact. Those of you that have visited here before can confirm that I the comments for me.

Also for the children, there’s a special Santa’s Grotto, and even a little Santa’s train ride. So this is very much a family event, it’s not just all sausage munching and beer!

This year, 2022, the market opened on Fri 11th Nov and it will continue until Thurs 22nd Dec. It’s open daily from 12 noon until 8pm with the bar open until 10 and the stalls stay open until 10 too Thurs through to Sat. Sunday is 10am to 8pm.

We get our first glimpe of the 32 metre high big wheel..and just straight ahead of us you see The Browne Doorway, that unique land mark of Galway’s Eyre Square that I discussed in my previous Galway video.

Galway is a University town, so there’s a large population of foreign students here, not to mention students from all parts of Ireland. I think that’s why the city has such a vibrant atmosphere. It also for that reason has quite a young population.
