CNC'ed Jewelry Box - Heart Shaped Box. How I made it with with two sided machining and Fusion 360

Описание к видео CNC'ed Jewelry Box - Heart Shaped Box. How I made it with with two sided machining and Fusion 360

Hey CNC Woodworkers! Here's my overall process for making this wood jewelry box on my Avid CNC machine. It's a smooth organic shape, and not your traditional square box. This is one of the first projects that I did on my new CNC machine and I'm pretty excited how it came out.

This heart box is an extension of my earlier wood and epoxy box:    • Heart Box - CNC Woodworking - Making ...

I thought it would be more challenging to create an all wood version, and have two sides mate together perfectly with some sort of pattern in the middle. This is what I came up with, and my general process for how I made the box. I experimented with a lot of different hold down techniques in this video, some of which I am abandoning for various reasons. I've settled on some techniques that hold down really well and are consistent; I'll make a video documenting how I do it pretty soon.

This is the file I made for printing these yourself at home in PLA, along with a set of directions on how to print them for maximum strength. I include STL's for various sizes, along with the original parametric Fusion 360 file, and pre-set sliced versions setup in Prusa Slicer. Feel free to copy the design in case you don't want to buy my pre-made file - I'm totally fine with that!

June 2023: I have a few of these boxes available for purchased on my website https://www.corbinsworkshop.com -- and if you don't see a particular one that you want, let me know! I sometimes don't post everything I have on the site for sale. I can also potentially make some custom versions of this style.

2L custom made this bit for me; I have been using it for a few projects and it seems quite good. We'll see how long it lasts, but for $20 it is a great deal compared to a lot of more expensive Amana tool bits. I really need the 3" Overall Length for deep carvings like these, and Amana doesn't have one in the 1/4" ball nose size.

I haven't made the Fusion 360 file for this project available, but I am willing to sell it to anyone who wants to give it a try (~$15), I just don't have a set of specific step-by-step directions on all the details of what I do. I generally like to make PDF describing everything that needs to be done so that people will have the best success with a project like this. I've found not as many people are interested in Fusion 360 projects, and like Vectric VCarve more...but it is really hard to create something like this in VCarve due to the machining techniques I use.

Other things I cover: new two sided machining experiments!

Thanks everyone!
