In this remarkable patient journey, we meet Mr. Suresh Kumar Dahiya, a 24-year-old from Churu, Rajasthan, whose life changed after a childhood accident. At the age of 2–3 years, he sustained an eye injury from a wooden stick.
This led complete loss of vision in one eye, and the development of a dense corneal opacity. Apart from cosmetic concerns, he also suffered from occasional pain in the affected eye, which caused emotional distress and loss of confidence.
Having tried multiple hospitals without finding a solution, Suresh discovered Eye7 Group of Hospitals through a YouTube video. Here, under the expert care of Dr. Ruchi Goel, Senior Consultant & Head of Oculoplasty at Eye7 Lajpat Nagar, his journey to a new look and renewed confidence began.
Dr. Ruchi explains the case in detail and demonstrates the surgical process:
Step 1: Evisceration with implant placement – removing the damaged eye contents while retaining the scleral shell, and inserting an orbital implant to maintain volume and allow natural movement.
Step 2 (after 6 weeks): Customised 3D ocular prosthesis fitting – taking precise socket measurements and matching the artificial eye perfectly to the patient’s healthy eye in size, colour, and depth.
The video captures not only the surgery but also comprehensive post-operative care instructions – from applying prescribed antibiotic and lubricant drops to cleaning the conformer and later maintaining the artificial eye. Dr. Ruchi also reassures viewers that a well-fitted prosthesis can move naturally, thanks to the implant transmitting movement from the eye muscles to the artificial eye.
When the final prosthesis was fitted, the transformation was stunning – so natural that even the patient admitted he could no longer tell which was artificial. For Suresh, this was more than a medical procedure; it was a boost in confidence. He shares how he now feels comfortable meeting people, taking photographs, and living without the hesitation that had troubled him for years.
