Intrepid Fastback Narrow - Made in England circa early 1970s - Beachcasting Multiplier Fishing Reel.
Based on the Intrepid Buccaneer boat reel, the Fastbacks are large for beachcasting reels but can be very useful in tough conditions. They add quick opening/spool change, fast retrieve and red colour scheme to the Buccanneer; it is the fast retrieve from which its "Fastback" name is derived. Being heavy duty beach reels based on a boat reel Fastbacks can also be used for boat fishing if required though the torque is less than on the Buccanneer due to the higher gearing. Sideplates and spool are made of very tough glass-filled-nylon composite, they have the useful feature of an anti-reverse on/off lever and are generally very tough and servicable. Three models were made: Narrow, Medium and Wide offering different spool widths/capacities. All but the latest models had a great gold coloured faux medal on the side which can be seen on this Narrow model with the "N" in the centre indicating Narrow. The Narrow is the only Fastback model which did not come with a rod clamp and does not have mounting holes in its base for one probably due to being too narrow for that.
