STORYLINE:

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his wife Lyudmila visited the official residence of the British prime minister on Thursday, for lunch with Tony Blair and his wife Cherie.

Thursday was the last full day of Putin's visit, aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

The trip was the first state visit by a Russian leader since Czar Alexander II enjoyed the full royal welcome in 1874.

Earlier in the week, Putin met Queen Elizabeth II.
