Frigg – Plaster Study

This sculpture of Frigg, the Norse goddess associated with foresight, motherhood, and domestic strength, was carved from an old block of plaster accumulating in the workshop—originally waste material. I used a basic clay knife and a scalpel to shape it, working directly into the dry plaster without prior sketching.

The piece developed through a process of gradual reduction—removing small sections at a time rather than forcing the form. The spiral motifs were chosen for their symbolic ties to weaving, fate, and continuity, all qualities linked to Frigg in the mythological tradition.

The design is intentionally compact and stylized, with simplified features and flowing lines to suggest calm and containment. Frigg is a figure who holds knowledge quietly; I wanted that restraint and inward focus to come through in the posture and facial treatment.

This wasn’t a planned or commissioned work—just a spontaneous exercise in shaping something meaningful out of discarded material. It was as much about experimenting with form and texture as it was about representing the mythological figure herself.
