Jay Wingate's World War II military experiences

Описание к видео Jay Wingate's World War II military experiences

My late Uncle, Jay Wingate, was an Army Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers during WWII. The main mission of his unit was to build temporary bridges to allow the allied forces to cross rivers where the original bridges had been destroyed by the retreating Germans. It was a very dangerous job. He participated in the D-Day landing, the Battle of the Bulge, was awarded two Purple Hearts and lost 29 soldiers under his command during a mine laying practice exercise in England prior to D-Day. He was also among the first Americans to enter Berlin at the end of the war. I interviewed Jay in July, 2010 so that he could tell his stories. When I made this video I included many photographs to help bring Jay's stories to life.
