Описание к видео #Papaya

Here is a step-by-step guide to successful papaya cultivation:
1. Planning & Site Selection
Climate: Papayas thrive in tropical or subtropical areas with temperatures between 25°C and 30°C. They are very sensitive to frost and strong winds.
Soil: You need well-drained sandy loam soil rich in organic matter. The ideal pH is 6.0 to 6.5.
Location: Choose a spot with full sun. Avoid areas where water accumulates after rain, as "wet feet" is the #1 killer of papaya trees.
2. Seed Preparation & Nursery
Sowing: Most farmers start seeds in polythene bags or nursery trays. Use a mix of soil, sand, and manure (1:1:1).
Seed Treatment: To speed up germination, rub the seeds with wood ash to remove the jelly-like coating (sarcotesta).
Germination: Seeds usually sprout in 2 to 3 weeks. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
Timing: Seedlings are ready for the field when they are 15–20 cm tall (usually after 45–60 days).
3. Land Preparation & Planting
Pits: Dig holes of 45 x 45 x 45 cm. Fill them with a mix of topsoil and 10–20 kg of well-rotted farmyard manure (FYM).
Spacing: * Standard: 1.8 m x 1.8 m or 2.5 m x 2.5 m.
High Density: 1.2 m x 1.2 m (for dwarf varieties like Pusa Nanha).
Transplanting: Move seedlings in the evening to reduce transplant shock. If using non-hermaphrodite varieties, plant 2–3 seedlings per pit to ensure you get a fruit-bearing plant.
4. Maintenance & Care
Irrigation: Drip irrigation is best. During the summer, a mature tree may need up to 10–15 liters of water per day.
Fertilization: Papayas are heavy feeders. Apply NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) every 2 months.
Sex Management: If your variety is dioecious (separate male and female plants), keep 1 male for every 10–15 females for pollination. Remove excess males once they flower (around month 4 or 5).
Weeding: Keep the area around the base clean, as weeds compete for nutrients and harbor pests.
5. Pest & Disease Control
Collar Rot/Root Rot: Caused by waterlogging. Ensure perfect drainage and avoid mounding soil too high against the trunk.
Viral Diseases (Ring Spot/Mosaic): Transmitted by aphids. If a plant shows yellow, mottled, or distorted leaves, it is best to remove and burn it immediately to prevent spread.
Pests: Watch for Mealybugs and Aphids. Use neem oil or appropriate organic/chemical sprays as needed.
6. Harvesting
Timeline: Fruit is usually ready 9 to 12 months after planting.
Signs: Harvest when the fruit shows a yellow/orange tinge at the bottom (the "apex"). If shipping long distances, harvest when it is about 25-30% yellow.
Yield: A healthy tree can produce 30–100 fruits per season.
