Описание к видео Wincor Nixdorf Beetle 6/XL

This unit, the Wincor Nixdorf Beetle 6/XL, is the pc section of an old POS system. It has the following specifications:

Processor: Pentium I, 166 Mhz
Memory: 64 MB
Floppy drive: 3.5 inch, 1.44 MB
Harddisk: 7.4 GB
Optical drive: None
Video: VGA
OS: Windows NT 4.0 Workstation

The pc is a very strange mixture of new and old concepts. The power switch mechanism reminds of the old 286 era. It is basically a long stick that, when pressed, flips a power switch, which is physically located on the power supply.

The BIOS copyright dates from 1995, but the latest bios update is from the year 2000. My guess it that this design was first manufactured in 1995, but this particular unit was produced in 2000. The BIOS setup layout is probably the most primitive one I have ever seen. Even the BIOS of the Siemens Nixdorf PCD-2B of 1991 was smarter.

Also, I have no idea why a POS system would need a harddisk of 7.4 GB. It seems a little excessive. My guess is that it isn't the original harddisk.

The pc has 6 serial ports to connect all the POS hardware (only 1 is male, the rest is female). It also has two PS/2 ports, but only one of these is meant to be used for regular pc hardware. The first PS/2 port is used connect a regular pc keyboard. The other is used to connect the cashdrawer, which I did not aquire. If one connects a mouse to this port, the system registers this during the self test as the drawer being open. But apart from this, nothing happens, and the mouse does nothing and cannot be detected by Windows. I then tried a serial mouse, but it also cannot be detected (using Windows 98 SE and Windows NT 4.0 setups).

When I bought this pc on eBay, I was led to believe that I would be receiving a Siemens Nixdorf Beetle. However, when I opened the box, I was surprised to find that this pc had the Wincor Nixdorf logo. Despite this, it was the same type as pictured in the ad. It seems that when Wincor Nixdorf was formed out of Siemens Nixdorf, existing designs that were still in production such as this one were simply given an updated logo.
