LYRICS
Cutting the ties with the old, I think I’ve met you before.
We’ve been here 1,000 times before, so really what’s once more?
The future belongs to the bold. Ways that we’ve felt untold.
You have been searching while others are searching.
Life is a circle at most.
Life is a circle at most.

There’s some place not far from here we can go.
There’s some place not far from here we can go.

Time is a patient soul.
Words need time to grow.
Time is in service to people with purpose or life is a circle at most.
Life is a circle at most. Time the only ghost. Time our holy ghost.

There’s some place not far from here we can go.
There’s some place not far from here we can go.

For the music video, I wanted to create a catalog of recurring places to materialize that utopian space the lyrics allude to. I shot this video on Super 8 film over a series of road trips across Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, in parallel with the making of my latest film installation, The Crying Mountain, a piece of expanded cinema around loss and mourning which includes poetry and a ritualistic gesture. In Some Place, the succeeding images of an abandoned drive-in movie theater and an active copper mine (I first had in mind to add more desolate landscapes such as a dried lake and a burned forest but decided to simplify it to echo the structure of the song) intercut with the shots of two characters and the mysterious “games” they play and which we know little about, in this kind of strange Americana tale.
