Did Jesus Say That Women Are Like Dogs??

In Matthew 15:21-28, Jesus has a conversation with a Canaanite woman. This woman calls him "Son of David" which is shocking, especially since the Jewish leaders called him the "Son of Belzeebub." However, in response to this Canaanite woman, Jesus seems to call her a "dog." What does Jesus mean by this? Is there something more that meets the eyes?
