I've been eager to try The Filter Coffee's authentic South Indian fare served on banana leaves. Their new Koramangala branch offers a spacious, well-lit, and hygienic dining experience. While they've adopted some self-service elements, the ample seating sets them apart, creating a premium cafe atmosphere.
Their digital-first approach, from ordering to payment, is innovative and seamless. Though I was skeptical about this concept, the whole process went seamless. Depending on the success of this format, many other restaurants could adapt to it.
The food is authentically Tamil, with highlights like the Ghee Paper Roast XL, a crispy and flavorful delight. The Idly and Sambar are good, but the Udin Vade is exceptional—crispy and flavorful. The Poori Masala is another standout, with fluffy Pooris and a delicious Sagu. The Adai, while decent, could benefit from more spice and additional accompaniments like Aviyal, jaggery and butter.
The pricing is twofold/threefold higher than a typical Darshini, reflecting the location and upscale ambiance. It is on par with the prices of another similar high-tech restaurant Cafe Amudham in the same vicinity. The Filter Coffee targets a specific demographic seeking a modern, comfortable setting for authentic South Indian cuisine."
