Truk Lagoon 2024 - Day 3 Wreck Dives

Описание к видео Truk Lagoon 2024 - Day 3 Wreck Dives

Video from our 3rd day of dives from the trip to Truk Lagoon. Truk Lagoon is often regarded as the “holy grail” of wreck diving. These ships were sunk during Operation Hailstone, conducted on February 17-18, 1944.

The first dive was on the Nippo Maru wreck, a transport vessel (max depth 117’) and the second dive was on the Rio de Janeiro Maru, another transport vessel (max depth 97’). The Nippo Maru is mostly upright, but the Rio de Janeiro is lying on its starboard side.

Some of the highlights from the Nippo Maru are a howitzer (0:08), gun remnants (1:00), the bridge & its telegraph (1:38), a Type 57 tank (2:10), lots of ammunition (2:25), a vehicle (2:55), gas masks (3:03), another vehicle (3:11) and the bow (3:20).

From the Rio de Janeiro, there are bottles & dishes (4:03), more bottles (4:41), a pennant butterflyfish (5:17), some gauges (6:17), including a clock that stopped when the ship was sunk (note that it’s sideways), a lot more bottles (6:55), the ship nameplate (7:45), one of the huge propellers (7:50) and Sam, our DM, blowing a bubble to flip over a jellyfish (8:40).
