Title: Evolutionary Genomic Mechanisms of Adaptation to Novel and Changing Salinity

Abstract:
Salinity is a major environmental driver of aquatic species distributions. Coastal salinity across the globe is declining rapidly, yet we know little of how aquatic animal populations will be able to respond to this change. In response to extreme environmental change, evolutionary responses are often critical for avoiding extinction. In this presentation, I will discuss my recent work using genomic studies of wild and laboratory populations of an important planktonic crustacean to investigate genomic factors that could facilitate rapid evolutionary responses to global changes in salinity.
