This is a 1948 stella guitar that needed a neck reset so I tried steaming the neck pocket and clamping the neck down 5/8ths of an inch for 3 weeks and it worked. Originally the string height was 6/16ths at the 12th fret it is now 3/16ths at the 12th. This does not fix a bowed neck it helped tilt the neck back to where it was originally. If the top of your guitar is slightly concave around the sound hole at the neck then this should work for you as it will flatten the top as the neck tilts back.
