'I was born out wedlock. My mum remarried when I was three years and that marked the beginning of a painful childhood. My dad was so mean to me. He would make me work in the shamba all day while my brother stayed at home all day. Every-time he would beat my mother, he would wake me up and send me outside in the middle of the night. We would spend cold nights in maize plantations with my mother but my brother, who was his biological son, was never subjected to that mistreatment.
When I was planning my wedding, he refused to receive my dowry. At one time, he called my father-in-law with the intention of stopping my wedding. He hated me so much!
