FRESH MEAT

After shifting studios and delays, it was recently announced that Blumhouse Productions (Insidious, Sinister) will be producing the next installment of the Halloween franchise and the one and only John Carpenter will return to executive produce. There is no announcement yet on who will direct but rumors are swirling that Blumhouse favorite Mike Flanagan of Oculus and Hush fame is in the running as is Adam Wingard (You're Next, The Guest). The latest installment of Halloween is expected to hit theaters in October 2017.

A feature film adaptation of Stephen King's It has been in the works for a while with True Detective director Cary Fukunaga at the helm. When Fukunaga left the project in 2015 over "creative differences" the studio quickly tapped Mama director Andres Muschietti to take over. Before Fukunaga left he had cast young British actor Will Poulter (We're The Millers, The Revenant) as the infamous clown Pennywise. It had been uncertain if Poulter would remain on the project post-Fukunaga but recently we learned that Hemlock Grove's Bill Skarsgard would be be donning the clown shoes.

In anticipation for The Conjuring 2 hitting theaters this week, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released a promotional video featuring director James Wan explaining that he wants to "redefine horror." In essence, bringing respect and class back to the genre.

The long in development new installment of Friday the 13th has faced delay after delay over at Paramount Pictures. Now that Prisoners and upcoming Wolfman screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski has turned in his draft of the script, according to an interview with Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller, they will be moving forward with an origin story of sorts. Fuller told TheReelWorld.net that the new Friday the 13th would NOT be found footage and would be, "Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”
