Federal employees with mental or physical disabilities can request reasonable accommodations in the workplace. Here are five common types:

Job Restructuring: This involves modifying job functions, or altering when and how they're performed to accommodate the employee’s disability.

Leave: Disabled federal employees may request leave for various reasons, including medical treatment, recovery, training, and more.

Modified Schedules: Adjusting arrival or departure times, offering breaks, or allowing for the use of leave can accommodate employees' needs. This should be provided unless it poses an undue hardship.

Modified Workplace Policies: Employers can adjust policies when needed by a disabled employee, without affecting other employees.

Reassignment: If an employee can't perform their current role adequately due to health limitations, they can request reassignment to a vacant position, provided it's not an undue hardship, and they are qualified for the role.

These reasonable accommodations create a more inclusive workplace for all federal employees.
