Big Band Katowice - Sorcery (Polish Jazz - 1978)

Описание к видео Big Band Katowice - Sorcery (Polish Jazz - 1978)

Big Band Katowice from 1978 is one of the most outstanding albums of the Polish Jazz series.

As the album artwork implies, Katowice area was known for its industrial landscape. But not just that - the music school in the city was genuinely groundbreaking in the 1970s.

The band, made up of music school students, brings a fusion of jazz and funk that's far from average school project – actually, I think it's one of the best Polish jazz records of all time.

This album's got some great original tunes, but what really grabs your ears are two killer covers. Especially their spin on Keith Jarrett's track 'Sorcery' that would fit perfectly into any seventies blaxploitation movie soundtrack.

The other one is their take on The Meters' funk classic 'Cissy Strut.' I mean, it's not actually a full cover. They just grab the iconic guitar riff. Otherwise, the track they called 'Madrox' is much more uptempto and it has the energy to light up any b-boy event. It even make its mark on the legendary Canadian radio show Wefunk. Check the show number 318 if you want.
