ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - Anderson Township prepares to say goodbye to "Mt. Kroger" as a delayed expansion of the grocery store gets underway. A groundbreaking was held on Jan. 24 to kick off the work.

Kroger had planned to expand the store on Beechmont and Five Mile years ago. In 2017, the grocery chain put the brakes on several development plans.

For Anderson residents that meant a giant mound of dirt sat piled up next to the Kroger for all that time.

Kroger plans to add 41,000 feet of space to the current store.

The Fred Meyer Jewelers inside the Kroger will close to make room for a larger produce section. The pharmacy drive-thru will close during construction. A pharmacy kiosk will be added to the parking lot.

Kroger hopes to complete the expansion by late fall, according to a letter sent to Anderson residents.
