The 62-year-old Town Canteen in Chikmagalur came much recommended for its masala dose, the specialty here is the benne or butter version, dolloped with just enough butter to moisten this soft and crispy crowd favourite. A definite must-try, and whilst here get one or two of their soft gulab jamuns too. And when in Chikmagalur, you have to wash your indulgences down with some great chicory-blended filter coffee.
