STORYLINE:
Seven of Hong Kong’s most prominent democracy advocates have had part of their convictions overturned over their roles in one of the biggest pro-democracy protests in 2019.

Hong Kong’s High Court quashed the conviction for organizing an unauthorized assembly.

However, their convictions for taking part in the rally were upheld.

Their convictions two years ago were widely seen as another blow to the city’s flagging democracy movement under an unprecedented crackdown.

The rally, in August 2019, saw an estimated 1.7 million people call for greater police accountability and democracy.
