In this video, I have explained how I made the woodpecker animation scene. I started by finding a reference video on sites like Getty Images, Shutterstock, or Pond5. Then I use a free woodpecker rig by Mothman-TD (Link for his site : https://hombrepolilla.gumroad.com/l/w...) and change its texture in Photoshop to match the reference. I set up the camera using After Effects and created camera track for Maya, and then import the matchmove camera track into maya to set the reference video accordingly.

Next, I block out the main poses of the bird, starting with extreme poses in step tangent mode. I added in-between poses by observing the reference, focusing on big changes in movements. After refining the blocking poses, I spline out the shot, adding more poses in auto tangent mode. I polish the shot by adjusting timings, adding weight to the bird, and animating subtle movements in the claws and chest areas. I also animate the branch to add realism.

Once satisfied with the animation, I texture the branch and light the scene with arnold area lights and a skydome light with HDRI. I exported the image sequences with Arnold renderer in PNG format so that I can add background later on. Finally, I imported the image sequences into After Effects, added a forest video in the background, apply color corrections and some motion blur, and add a lens flare and tint effect for vibrancy.
